Katarzyna Kobro
Russia (1898—1951)After studying in Moscow, Kobro began her artistic career there and joined the Trade Union of Painters, where she met Malevich, Tatlin and Rodchenko. In 1920, she married Władysław Strzemiński, with whom she shared her artistic path and commitment to the Polish avant-garde. In 1924, she joined the Blok group, with which she remained involved only briefly. In 1936, she published her ideas on Functionalism in the journal Forma. Kobro and Strzemiński were also members of the a.r. group, and in 1932 Kobro joined the international group Abstraction-Création. During her lifetime, her work remained largely misunderstood in Poland. She died in 1951.
