Katarzyna Kobro

Russia (1898—1951)
After studying in Moscow, Kobro joined the Trade Union of Painters, where she met Malevich, Tatlin and Rodchenko and married Władysław Strzemiński. In 1924 she was a member of Block group but after her return to Poland she left the group. In 1936 she theorised her vision as Functionalism, as she described it in Forma. She and her husband also joined the A.R. and Abstraction-Création group. Her figure and talent remained widely misunderstood until her death in 1951.
