César Domela

The Netherlands (1900—1992)
Self taught Domela started painting after WWI, influenced by Cubism and Constructivism. In 1924 he became the youngest member of De Stijl and in 1927 he began working on his Neoplastic compositions and joined Abstracts of Hannover. He experimented with different materials and techniques such as photo collage. He set out his advertising agency. During 1920s he collaborated with Cercle et Carré and later with the Abstraction-Création group. In 1933 he moved to Paris, where he also founded the review Plastique with Hans and Sophie Arp.
