Ellen Auerbach
Germany (1902—2004)Auerbach studied with Walter Peterhans and, when he relocated to Dessau, she and Grete Stern took over his studio and opened their own photography studio, ringl + pit. Both artists were influenced by Constructivism and Surrealism. In 1933, they won first prize at the international exhibition in Brussels. Forced to leave Germany after the Nazis came to power, Auerbach moved first to Palestine and later to the United States, where she became a US citizen in 1942.
