Oskar Jespers
Belgium (1887—1970)Oscar Jespers took up sculpture at the Royal Academy in Antwerp and opened his studio in 1912. He collaborated with his friend, the poet Paul van Ostaijen, creating Cubist illustrations for Bezette Stad, the only Dadaist poetry collection in Belgium. In 1924 his work shifted from Cubism to Expressionism. Jespers settled in Brussels in 1929, where he continued to work and exhibit for the following two decades. In 1949 he moved to Maastricht, where he began teaching sculpture and drawing.
