Erich Consemüller
Germany (1902—1957)After training as a carpenter, Consemüller enrolled at the Bauhaus in Weimar in 1922, where he attended Johannes Itten’s preliminary course and classes with Paul Klee and Wassily Kandinsky. From 1923 to 1925 he continued his training under Walter Gropius and, from 1925 to 1928, studied with Marcel Breuer at the Bauhaus Dessau. In 1927 he transferred to the building department under Hannes Meyer and was commissioned by Walter Gropius to document the Bauhaus building and its interiors, producing around 300 photographs. Between 1929 and 1933 he taught in the architecture and advertising departments of the Kunstschule Burg Giebichenstein in Halle. After being dismissed by the National Socialists in 1933, he worked in several architectural offices and, from 1935 to 1939, as a structural engineering technician in the office of Wilhelm Ulrich in Halle. He subsequently worked for the Bauhaus-trained architect Walter Born in Leipzig until 1945, after which he joined the town planning department of the city of Halle.
