Henryk Stażewski

Poland (1894—1988)
Educated at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, Stażewski was a founding member of the Polish avant-garde groups Blok – together with Szczuka –, Praesens and a.r. Having worked also in interior and stage design he began travelling more often to Paris, where he started a close friendship with Mondrian and Seuphor. The influence of De Stijl was manifest in his abstract, geometric work and in his theoretical writings. From 1929 he joined the group Cercle et Carré and later Abstraction-Création. He designed covers for MUBA magazine and continued to take part in many international exhibitions.
