Auguste Herbin
France (1882—1960)After studying at the École des Beaux-Arts in Lille, Herbin set up his studio next to those of Picasso and Braque, whose work influenced his early experiments with Cubism. He gradually moved towards abstraction and in 1931 founded the Abstraction-Création group with Georges Vantongerloo and Jean Hélion. Together with Vantongerloo, he also edited the group’s Almanach. Following a right-sided paralysis in 1953, he learned to paint with his left hand and continued working until his death in 1960, leaving only one unfinished painting, Fin.
