I thank each of you for taking part and for submitting your works. As I reviewed the photographs, I saw not only technical solutions but also how each of you perceives people, the environment, and time. For me, photography has always been about the human being – about the face, the state of mind, and the silence. In these works I see searches and efforts to speak sincerely. The mobile age has affected the traditions of human interaction, leaving less room for feelings. Therefore, I wish you to continue seeing and observing not only what is beautiful, but also what is true.
Most of the entries in the illustration category, were made by artists with personal projects,
which, in a first review, got me so enthusiastic that I voted for most of them (it was later adjusted). It may suggest that illustration as an art form, is more open to artists as authors in their own right. Yet, there were a few exemples of illustrators brilliantly serving themes laid out by somebody else. I may be naive about A.I., but I can’t see how it can replace subjective intelligence.
After reviewing the submitted works for the first time, I was very relieved that none of the entries featured excessive computer effects. This trend seems to be over. Graphic design means helping something (an event, story, product or message) to make a good impression, in a memorable, unique ,original way that is appropriate to the subject matter. Whether the selected works belong to the avant-garde will become clear in 5 to 10 years time.
